Listening: The deluxe version of my 8tracks.com “I Fell in Love with a Werewolf Skater in 1988″ mix. It has way more hardcore on it. If you’re on 8tracks.com, tell me your mix and I will listen to it. It is my new favorite site. I listened to all my music this week via 8tracks.com.
Watching: A very, very special elf sent me a package of screeners which made me feel so lucky. So I got to see Black Swan, Rabbit Hole, The Fighter, and True Grit. Black Swan is genuine bananas and the sexual politics of it bothered me in a way that I longed to see a female director’s take on the story. (Patriarchal virgin/whore bullshit, can we just get over this?) But I did enjoy being freaked out so much — and I do so like creepy movies and I’m always pleased to see Noni. It meant to work on a visceral level and that’s what it did, and I think it is one of the few memorable movies of this year, strange and pulpy and kind of camp and faux-psychotic and then really awesomely psychotic — the last 40 minutes of the movie still kind of play in my mind. Rabbit Hole was moving in a very small, intimate, human way and Nicole Kidman was fantastic. I really hope Nicolekins gets an Oscar. It would be well-deserved. True Grit was not that interesting to me; I confess that I turned it off and watched something else, probably “The Wizards of Waverly Place” or whatever my niece wanted to see. But I really only enjoy the Coen brothers’ comedies whole-heartedly, though they get amazing performances in their dramatic films. If The Fighter did not have Christian Bale and Amy Adams, I would’ve totally not made it a priority to see, either. It’s well-done and solid as a film on the whole, but the thing that makes the movie memorable is Christian Bale. Christian Bale is SO GOOD. SO FUCKING GOOD. He’s always good, but he’s FUCKING GOOD in The Fighter. If anyone’s just a fan of good actors and performances, you really need to see it for what he does. Oh, I also took my nephew to see the latest Narnia movie and I enjoyed it. I actually think it’s my favorite of all the Narnia film adaptations — it’s very ably directed, generally well-paced and there are some truly magical moments. It’s a shame that there probably won’t be more Narnia films, because I felt like they had found their footing in this one. Also, the kid who plays Eustace Scrubb is a comic genius. I totally didn’t realize he was in Son of Rambow, but he was, and he’s excellent in Voyage of the Dawn Treader. He really went for it. Love that in an actor, however young. Most young or child actors try so hard to please or be cute in their performances (see “Wizards of Waverly Place”) that it’s kind of cool to see something so ballsy-annoying and alienating. And funny, in that stuffy British way.
Reading: Every holiday season, I like to read all the books I loved as a kid. So I’m reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy for about the millionth time of my life, proving once again that at heart I am basically a nine-year old boy or something. I’m sure I’ll re-watch all the movies, too. It makes me sad during the holidays that there isn’t a new LOTR movie to look forward to, so I was most psyched to hear they’re finally moving forward on The Hobbit movie.
Wearing: Plaid flannel layered over thermal, Uniqlo leggings (sob, I miss Uniqlo) over more leggings, knee high socks, Frye boots, a knit hat, my favorite big giant neck muffler thingie. It’s like -20 degree wind chill outside some days, but I enjoy being bundled up.
Wanting: Come on, man, after all those movies do I really need to ask for anything else? But I told Santa I wanted an e-reader for the holidays. I miss reading, but I’m tired of lugging books back and forth across the country, being the gypsy that I am.

Watching: “my stories” (aka Gossip Girl & Community)
Reading: I dunno. TELL ME THE BEST BOOK YOU READ THIS YEAR!
Wearing: black jeans + black boots + Aerosmith t-shirt + plaid flannel + this six-dollar fake-gold-chain necklace with a painted metal bird pendant that everyone loves the hell out of. Plus, the best side ponytail you ever saw.
Wanting: I think it’d be really great to be Alison Brie, ya know?
A few weeks back I did that Groupon thing where you pay $25 for a $50 gift certificate at American Apparel, and I got this tank top and this “nighty.” Both are adorable and mega-flattering. I also got these socks, which are cute too.

Watching: My Dad is out of town this week, so I have been living at his apartment, AKA watching his TV. I don’t have a TV. I love TV. My favourite thing about TV is how often Friends is on. I think I watched five episodes of Friends last night? That’s so amazing. Friends is my favourite TV show ever. I AM IN LOVE WITH ROSS GELLER.
