There are many amazing, fun things you get to do when you write and research a love story about two skaters, one of whom is a girl and one of whom is a werewolf. (This sounds like the beginning of a weird logic puzzle, doesn’t it?) One: listen to lots of Bad Brains. Another: get an especially hot dude to give you lessons. (Weird and sad that I don’t know girls in NYC who skate, right?) And yet another: ingest tons of music, movies and books on skateboarders and skateboarding culture. (I also read tons of fantastic, fascinating wolf-related research, but I can’t figure out how to fit a discussion of social hierarchy within wolf packs as a nogoodforme.com blog post.) I got to scope out lots of great skate photography, and one of my favorites was discovering the work of Max Hamilton, a London-based portrait photographer. He takes pictures of a lot of things, including some really fascinating series on the developing landscape of China, but I loved his series on skater girls in Britain most especially. The sad thing is that most skater iconography is pretty dude-centric (and I put some of my favorite skater-dude stuff here), so it’s very cool to see a whole series devoted to UK girl skaters.

Very cool. Skater culture is definitely one of the underappreciated-but-huge influences on fashion of the past couple decades.
