Imaginary Shopping Spree: psycho-tropical rain slickers, wacky sunglasses, Hawks by Geren Ford frock

Tie-dyed Rain Slicker, Land’s End for Kids

I stumbled upon this psycho-tropic(al) rain slicker while killing time at a sub-par suburban shopping mall with my ex-boyfriend. That’s a cool sentence. I’ve recently come to treasure the sartorial impact of austerity, or at least austerity relative to the days when an outfit was not an outfit unless it included at least ten clashing shades of neon. However, I still have to PCP it up now and again, just to remember who I am (Laura Jane) and where I’m at (a really good place in my life). My soul is decidedly NOT grey and khaki- actually, I’ve been told by at least two crackpot street-corner palm readers that my soul is magenta, so I guess my soul is magenta. World, I need to communicate the innate magenta-ism of my soul to you, and what better time to demonstrate my inner avant-wackiness than a rainy day? Really, wearing a pastel tie-dyed rain slicker is the practical embodiment of practicing what John Lennon preaches in “Rain”, the fourth-best Beatles song of all time: boring normies hide from the rain; sexy geniuses romp around and embrace it (I’m paraphrasing). You know this about me, but I’ll say it again: I always heed John Lennon’s advice. So: Land’s End, here I come! (Laura)
Wacky sunglasses from all over the place
About 37 minutes ago I became hugely obsessed with Polyvore, this social-networking-type site where you can make/share little outfits (in collage form) out of clothing items and accessories and various other fun things found online. (I’d suggest Susie Bubble‘s Polyvore sets as a good little intro the site’s potential awesomeness, FYI.) In lieu of devoting my portion of this week’s We’re Obsessed column to Polyvore (because I have so many other obsessions to chronicle!), I present you with a tiny collection of wacky sunglasses discovered on the site. Given that my boring Steve Madden shades are much more my sunglass speed, I’d probably never actually wear any of these outside of some costume-y kind of situation, but you know: Never say never. You can get the shutter shades (featured on this Polyvore page) at Lady Luck Rules OK, the butterfly sunglasses (shown in this set by Lindsey Luscious, whose You’re my E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G outfit I really want to wear today) at Goggles and Glasses, and the heart ones (from this Polyvore set) at Topshop. I’m feeling in an oddly non-shopping spree kind of mood…you know, like, “Objects? I’m so over them.” Which I know is temporary and so not true and probably more influenced by the periodic angst induced from living inside a small Manhattan apartment. Besides, as my ex-beau likes to point out, “Isn’t there always a dress that you like out there somewhere?” Which is equally true. In fact, I could probably make my portion of Imaginary Shopping Spree devoted to frocks for the rest of my blogging existence and I’d never run out ones to want. So without further adieu, this is the dress of the week for me (Kat):
