To Go: Fiery Furnaces this Friday & Saturday in L.A.

This weekend our spiritual brother Matthew Friedberger and his actual sister Eleanor Friedberger will be playing not one but TWO shows at Spaceland in L.A. I’m going Saturday night and so excited, as I haven’t seen the Fiery Furnaces in too many moons: Last time was at The Echo a little while after Blueberry Boat came out, and in the middle of the show some random stranger-girl pointed at Eleanor and shouted wildly into my ear, “Ohmygod, she’s so weird and cool, I LOVE HER!!” And it’s true; Eleanor is so weird and cool, and I love her a lot too, and lately I can’t stop listening to this live version of “Rub Alcohol Blues” that Fluxblog posted a little while back.
So, tickets are $15 and still available, but it seems to me the show’s got a pretty good chance of selling out, so, you know: Get it while it’s hot! (FYI, I just said that in the same sing-songy voice of Carrie Bradshaw on the episode where she brings pizza over to Big’s late at night and then he tells her he’s moving to Napa and then she shoves the pizza at him and sulks on the floor. And now that you know what I’m doing Saturday night, care to take a stab at where I’ll be on Friday?)
Oh, and while I have you here: You’d also be wise to head to the Silent Movie Theatre tonight for a “celebration” of Lavender Diamond‘s upcoming movie Imagine Our Love, “an extravaganza featuring Busby Berkeley-style dance numbers, animation, luxurious costumes and interplanetary ballet.” Party starts at 8; tickets are $15.
